Wonderful Daydream

Everything is beautiful, as long as it’s real.

NaNoWrimo…The End

Well, I can’t say that I’m not a bit disappointed with myself, however, not that much. Confrontend with reality, and I assure you, it was not a pretty sight, I had to lower my hands, and stop writing. The truth is, I have simply to much fun things to choose from. Besides work, that is. Not that I care very much about my work, but it’s just a very interesting time in the office, and since a that has not occurred for quite a while, I like to inhale as much of it as possible.

Besides writing, I like to play guitar and sing. And, compelled to writing 2.5 hrs of writing a day, I couldn’t play much. After a week and half, I had to gave in. I like to do fun things, really enjoy myself. Especially in november. I can push myself if I know the reward is very satisfactory, but not now. Not in november.

After 12.000 ish words, I stopped. And breathed in, deeply, as a smile of joy appeared on my lips.

Thanks for all the support though! That was really excellent!

NaNoWrimo = Pleasurable Frustration?

Well, a fun first NaNoWriMo week it has been so far. Some impressions:

- Writing in a noisy bar, while drinking incredible amounts of mint tea, was definitely pleasurable.
- My decision not to count words until this Sunday was a good one, however I did not stick with it. The idea was the moment you know how many words you actually have managed to write down, the focus is potentially to become a negative one, one of ‘darn…I still have so many to go’, opposed to ‘Damn I’m good, I’ve already written so much. I’m close to 8.000 now.
- Working close to full time is proving difficult. Sometimes I have to battle an inner war of priorities. So far, work has won.

The Nanowrimo forums have been an inspiration, as much as they have been fun. I’ve subscribed to some rss feeds, and one that really got me laughing out loud was a guy who asked in the ‘erotic fiction’ forum, if anyone had an idea as to what anal lubricants people would have used in the middle ages. He didn’t care much for the story to be as authentic as possible, but to put it in his words ‘he couldn’t make the MC whip out a tube KY lube’. Another interesting question was how to write a ‘tasteful’ rape scene.

I must say it’s equally fun as it is frustrating to have to write, day in day out. But, my imagination, or my intuition telling me where to go next, have not yet failed me.

Although I’m reluctant to reveal anything of my story line, I can confirm the rumors that it will contain a one eyed cat, listening to name of Jules.

You can find stories of other wrimo’s here. Krhys, Eric and Jacob are all trying to get to the finish too!

NaNoWriMo

National Novel Writing MonthWell, I’ve decided to enrol myself for this years NaNoWriMo, or National Novel Write Month. The idea is to write a novel script containing a minimum of 50.000 words, within the month November,  “to more fully take advantage of the miserable weather.”

If one passes the 50.000 words, you can call yourself a winner. Winning means that you’ve made a huge effort in writing a novel. Or at least, the first draft of it. Incidentally, 50.000 words a month, equals 1699 words per day, equals 70 something words per hour.

50.000 words for a novel is not that much, you might say, given the fact that there are usually 800 words on a page. However, books such as The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Brave New World, and The Great Gatsby, all contain around and about 50.000 words, according to Wikipedia.

It appears that I’m not the only one! Elizabeth Borghi, Lee Hutchings, David Halliday and Vehka have also started. Not that I know these people.

I’ll keep you posted on my progress. If you wish to see my NaNoWriMo profile (which over time will include snippets of what I wrote so far) please press the banner located on the left side of this screen. - Be advised - Due to an incredulous amount of webtraffic currently heading for the NaNoWriMo homepage, it might take some time for the page to load.
